I was born in Kolkata, West Bengal and lived there until the age of 13, before moving to the U.S. with my family. In Kolkata, I attended an all-girls convent school called Loreto House, a school that was instrumental in shaping me and instilling the morals and values I carry with me today. While there, one of the extracurricular activities we engaged in was, educating underprivileged children. This was one experience that had truly enlightened me, witnessing the impact it created in the lives of these children, and the positive difference I brought. Through this experience I realized my love for helping people, especially children. As an individual, I am intuitive, caring, passionate, empathic, and a compassionate person, carry a positive outlook in life, and possess a high emotional intelligence, which has given me the ability to empathetically connect with others on a deeper level. Bonding with children has always come easy to me, which I... more realized after working with them on various settings. I always believe every individual has a story and learning about them truly helps me connect with them better. I really find it interesting that no matter what background, culture, language, or life experiences people may have, we all share the same emotional language. Initially, though, I wanted to be a doctor and treat poor people, but while in college I soon realized, the importance of preventive healthcare, and my growing passion towards the field of Public Health. A field I got to explore more while attending the University of Washington. There I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health and Geography. Helping communities to be healthier, educating them on preventive care, guiding them to resources, is something that I truly find joy in. Recently graduated from my Masters in Public Health program and currently, I am working as a Health Consultant, but will be starting my new job as a Community Health Worker at the County. Reducing childhood obesity is one of the goals I want to work towards and to further it, I plan to pursue my PhD in Health Education Promotion and Nutrition. I like the simple things in life, spending time in nature, cooking Bengali and other Indian dishes, reading thought provoking books, watching meaningful movies, sitting at a coffee shop, and enjoying some peace. I am a deep thinker and often ponder about the philosophies and complexities of life. I enjoy having deep intellectual conversations on various topics, such as the universe, psychology, science, cultures, history, and philosophy. I believe in staying authentic to myself and I value authenticity in others. Having lived both in India and in the U.S. I carry a blend of east and west worlds, while maintaining the values I grew up with. I practice mindfulness, in the rush of life, we often forget to take a moments time to connect with ones self and being a spiritually inclined person I feel keeping ourselves balanced is very important in order to help tackle all of life's stresses. I enjoy traveling and have been to quite a few places around the world. I am a family-oriented person and very close to my family both in the U.S. and in India. I value close friendships and quality relationships, and always make an effort to stay in touch with my close ones whom I deeply care about, no matter the distance. In life, I am hoping to find someone whom I connect with and who has a similar approach to life as me -- an individual with values, who cares about people, and willing to help them. A person who carries a positive outlook and is broad-minded and has empathy. I believe every person is unique and having an open communication creates room for growth, understanding and learning compatibilities, which I feel are essential for any relationship to last.
